Where are the Miracles?

As I read through a passage by Samuel Martin I was reminded that miracles are not big gigantic things that happen to us. “The perception of the subtle opens us to the sacred in life.” How often have I looked for the sacred in the wrong place? Probably only a million times! Funny, we often think of the spectacular and pray for the immense, negotiate for an outcome, or swear we will change our ways.

Look around! What makes you feel grateful? In awe? Full of wonder? The wind rippling through the barren trees. No snow on the ground. Leaves still crackling under my feet. The sun slowly moving out of the sky – bright blue replaced by hints of grey and orange. Longing for the twilight, the sprinkle of leftover Christmas lights, the smell of the fireplace, the sound of the chimes. Children, mine and the many who remind me to live in the moment. Parents, friends, colleagues and pets. Silver and gold. Past and present. It is that time of year when we hold what is dear and let go of what binds.

Sorting and sifting through photographs and memories, Christmas cards and dishes. It’s time to start again!  Time to remember where and how what is important to us lives within. So much is new - so much to see and do!
