What Do You Do With An Idea?

In the book What Do You Do With An Idea by Kobi Yamada, the story begins with wondering what to do with your idea? I wondered for a while. And then I didn’t wonder any more. It took some time and a lot of friends. Today was March 1st, 2016, The School at Kirkridge has been open for a Fall, a Winter and we are heading into spring. As the idea grew and was shared lots of people helped. Ideas (and schools) take a lot of time and a lot of passion.

We would never have been able to make this idea real with out the help of a lot of amazing people. There are schools everywhere. Yet, we saw the need for a different type of school. We imagined a rebirth of A School at Kirkridge. A school that had children and kindness at the core. Today, Dillon helped Amber cross a creek. It was new to her, but not to him. He didn't help to gain the praise of friends, he is just kind. He is kind because his teachers are kind, they treat each other and the children well. Our parents are kind, too. We all pitch in together.

Today we have a lot to celebrate and much dreaming still to do! We take walks in the woods and get our socks and shoes wet in the creeks and streams. We sled down the hills. We learn about Egypt and Finland through making cucumber salad and pancakes. We read books like Wonder by AJ Palacio, study math and explore science.

This Spring we are looking forward to finishing some projects we started in the Fall: painting and setting up the Coracle (thanks to the work of so many families) for art and music, working in the gardens and updating the trail markers.

We welcome you, the Kirkridge Community, to help us with your expertise or a can of paint (or a donation to gather supplies).
Come visit and see the beauty of this place. Join us in building the future as our children spread kindness, dream and explore at Kirkridge.
